Most family history researchers will have encountered at least one non-standard forename in their family tree - this talk shows what these unusual names reveal

Most family history researchers will have encountered at least one non-standard forename in their family tree. After discovering her third, Denise began to investigate the sorts of unusual forenames that were used. Based on her research, this talk shows that unusual names have been used for many centuries, for a variety of reasons. The talk looks at how unusual forenames often relate to the time when they were chosen by parents, and what clues they might offer to a parent's character or values. The talk will end with an opportunity for discussion or questions, which usually proves very stimulating.

Denise has a degree in history, with a focus on the period c1800-1952. She has been researching her family history for over a decade and has written three full length books, and contributed to magazines, television and radio.

Please note this talk will not be recorded for members to view later.
